To the Members and Friends of the Kinderhook Elks,
Fall is fast approaching; our Tag sale is on going, the Chicken BBQ is about to begin and Fair parking is around the corner. Soon Labor Day will be here and the unofficial start of Fall will commence.
It’s been a busy summer. Great thanks and appreciation to everyone that has assisted the lodge through this time. As you can imagine, to name everyone would be near impossible and would take too many pages in our newsletter. You know who you are and please know that your assistance is greatly appreciated by the lodge and most importantly by the communities and people that we assist.
This upcoming month of September is a very busy one. Of course we start off with Fair parking for Aug. 31st thru Sept.5th, and then have:
a District Deputy clinic on the 10th,
another initiation class on the 11th,
Catskill’s visitation on the 18th (3pm),
Biker’s night on the 22nd.
State Conference at the Desmond on the 22nd thru the 25th (open to ALL members),
the members of Brewster Lodge are visiting us on the 25th (3 to 4pm),
Workers’ Party on the 25th (4 to 8pm), and Karaoke on the 30th (7 to 10pm!!) .
Of course, there is also the usual bookings in the lodge and pavilion, Sunday breakfasts, Friday dinners, meetings and activities. As Professor Hinkle says; “Busy, busy, busy!”
One final thing I’d like to note. This lodge is defined by over 300 adult, American citizens that believe in God. All of us, in our initiation learned that one of our cardinal principles is Brotherly Love. So while we have the opportunity in the fleeting time of our lives, take a moment and reach out to our fellow members; especially those that we haven’t seen or heard from recently. They may be in a moment of ‘distress’ and a few moments with each other may put a smile on each other’s faces or lessen one’s burden. Remember, ‘the passing moment is ours long enough to grasp the hand in friendship, to lighten each other’s burdens, to bring rest to the weary, and to comfort those who mourn— this is Brotherly Love.’
